Glimpse of Gorgeous: Holiday Hair Do’s and Don’ts

After you find that perfect party dress, you may have the urge to make an appointment to get your hair professionally done. This is completely acceptable if you simply have too much money on your hands (if this is the case, make checks payable to Melanie K. Harris) or if you are going to a

Glimpse of Gorgeous: Holiday Dress Do’s and Don’ts

Tis the season to be jolly, to give and not receive, and to throw and/or attend as many holiday parties as possible. But what shall I wear? Well, that really depends on a few things: who is throwing the party? what time is the party? and where is it at? After taking these things into

Glimpse of Gorgeous: Shop NYC 2007

Correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no bad time to go shopping. Have a bad day? Go shopping. Break up with your boyfriend? Go shopping. Fail a test? Go shopping. Tired of creditors calling your house about your unpaid bills? Hm, I say go Shopping!! It’s a cure all. Doctor’s should write prescriptions

Glimpse of Gorgeous: Stay Hot With Winter Accessories

Winter puts a damper on a lot of things. The wind dries your face, your hair becomes brittle and damaged, and you have to say goodbye to your favorite open toed heels and flirty spring dresses for a few months. You cover up with lots of layers (unless you live in like, Florida or Hawaii which in that case, don't bother to finish this article),load up on moisturizer, and go into fashion hibernation for the winter.

Well, I can't stop your face from drying out or your hair from turning brittle, and global warming is working on the whole open-toed shoes thing, but it may be awhile. In the meantime, don't let the woes of winter harness your inner fashionista.

Scarves are a chic (and cheap) way to dress up any winter outfit. Buy lots of them to go with every outfit and experiment with wearing them different ways. Gloves are very in this season too, you've got to get some leather ones ASAP. They give a very modern, sophisticated look. Sunglasses are not just for the beach. Wear them to produce a Jackie O. vibe and to protect your eyes from watering in the dry winter weather. Hats can be pretty tricky. I think you know if you you're a hat person or not, so go crazy according to your own hat-wearing capabilities. The more glamorous the better!

Winter is statistically the most depressing season of the year. Don't let it ruin your fashion appetite. Bake holiday cookies, sing Christmas carols, stock up on moisturizer, take advantage of winter accessories, and be GORGEOUS!

Glimpse of Gorgeous: Not Your Grandma's Pantyhose!

They forecasted snow last night in Blacksburg. It didn't actually snow, it just rained and did other gross Blacksburg things, but it is certainly cold. As I got ready for work this morning, I made a sad, longing, face at my peep-toed pumps, tossed my flip flops into the back of my closet, and eyed my favorite grey kimono dress. Then, I grabbed the dress, my black patent pointy-toed pumps, and a pair of wardrobe-saving, happiness-preserving, Blacksburg-enduring, black textured tights.

I have to admit, I was a bit leary of this trend at first, but as I sit at my desk this morning, all nice and warm, I think I am finally a believer.

Tights (NOT leggings, I repeat NOT LEGGINGS) are the perfect way to utilize your favorite summer dress and turn it into a fall/winter piece. Wearing tights that match your shoes, cause your legs to appear longer, and thick, textured tights provide extra warmth. Boots (both ankle and tall) also look ultra chic with tights!

But you don't have to live in a region with strange weather patterns to love tights. Try them yourself, keep warm, and be GORGEOUS!

Glimpse of Gorgeous: Roberto Cavalli for H&M

2007 has really been a breakthrough year in affordable fashion. Designers are starting to see the light at the end of the fashion tunnel. That light, being us. Broke fashionistas pining for the opportunity to wear fabulous designers. I thought the fashion gods were finished when they brought us Marc by Marc Jacobs but now, Roberto Cavalli is coming out with a line for H&M! Who knows what will happen next?

Today (Nov. 8th) is the launch of Roberto Cavalli's top designer collaboration at H&M. The very talented, very popular latin designer happens to be a favorite among celebs like Mischa Barton, Scarlett Johansson, and Victoria Beckham. The line features an underlying rock glamour theme with lots and lots of animal print on everything from jackets to lingerie.

No outfit would be complete without accessories. Cavalli brings us bone and pearl pendants, cuff bracelets, gold sandals, and black satin Mary Janes

Fashion is an expression of freedom. This collaboration with H&M allows me to give a gift to the young audience that loves what I do, and identifies with my creativity, but might not be able to own a Roberto Cavalli piece. The collection I have designed for H&M contains all the elements of my signature Cavalli style, and is infused with glamour and joy', explains Roberto Cavalli on the H&M website.

Prices are slightly more expensive than your typical H&M spendings, but totally worth they buy. Where else are you going to find Roberto Cavalli for $199? Besides, you need a great dress for all of those holiday parties you'll be invited to. The collection will be available at approximately 200 H&M stores nationwide.

I'm hoping that 2008 will continue this amazing trend. My closet would love to be visited by some top name designers, and my wallet will surely thank me. And as you sit around pining for the next designer to reach out to us mere mortals, send up a prayer for Karl Lagerfeld to do a line at Target (just kidding, but seriously!) and be GORGEOUS!
