Politically Savvy: Raul Castro Named Cuba’s New President

Fidel Castro, who has ruled Cuba with an iron fist for decades, is now finally being replaced. The Cuban parliament named Raul Castro to take the presidency from his sick and ailing brother. “Fidel is irreplaceable; the people will continue his work when he is no longer with us physically, though his ideas always will

Get Empowered: Men Just Think They’re Smarter!

I know plenty of smart girls. Girls who can argue for existentialism, solve a complicated quadratic equation and discuss politics and religion with the best of them. I also know a lot of guys who can do the same. However, according to a study by a British researcher at University College London, men give themselves

Glimpse of Gorgeous: The Lauren Conrad Collection

Even back in the Laguna Beach days, I knew we could be friends. Lauren “LC” Conrad had a certain poise that her other female counterparts did not possess. We still saw her as vulnerable and I’m not going to lie, after she came home from San Francisco, I thought that was the end, but she

Get Inspired: You Are Powerful!

Everyone from Nicole to J. Lo to Jamie Lynn seems to be in the baby business right now. Christina reportedly got $1.5 million for the pictures of her son, Max in People Magazine and J. Lo is said to be receiving $6 million for pictures of her twins after they are born. Angelina Jolie just can seem to stop having kids. Last night, on E! News Ryan Seacrest said that the pay-offs seemed so great that he just might have a few babies himself.

I wouldn't know from personal experience, but women say that having kids is the most exciting, rewarding part of their lives, even without the millions of dollars for first photos. However, being pregnant is not all photo shoots and charity donations. Did you know that a woman dies every minute due to pregnancy related causes?

The joys of motherhood should not be overshadowed by fear. Most causes of death in pregnant women are preventable, but resources and knowledge are in short supply. Rural health clinics, in other countries in particular, are in need of skilled professionals and the right tools to give women proper healthcare.

Marie Claire has teamed up with CARE to raise money for health clinics in Peru. All you have to do is buy a T-shirt!

The T-shirts are black with the words "I am powerful" printed across the front. Each shirt costs $25 plus $6.95 shipping and handling and 100% of the net proceeds will go to benefit CARE's efforts in Peru. Shirts come in sizes small through extra-large.

While the stars make it look so glamorous, there are women out there suffering on the verge of death. Don't they deserve to experience the joys of motherhood just as much as the next person? Your money could make a difference. You are powerful!

To order a shirt, go to www.marieclaire/com/CARE.

Health Nut: Training for a Triathlon

I completed my first duathon last Saturday, and I am hooked. The race was a 2.2-mile run, an 11-mile bike, and another 2.2-mile run. I have only been running regularly for a couple weeks, so I thought I would just take my time through the events. But, when the starting horn sounded, the adrenaline started

New York Fashion Week: A Life-Changing Experience

"I swore that if I was ever offered a chance to attend New York Fashion Week, it’d be a no-brainer—I would pack my things and be on the first thing smokin’ to The Big Apple. And sure enough, opportunity knocked."

Get Inspired: How To Deal with Toxic Friends

By now all of us have had some type of break up with a significant other. It's not hard to see break ups are a part of life when there are love songs about all over the radio about relationships gone wrong, break up therapy books, and movies all catered to the topic.

Today on iVilliage's message board there was a topic article about breaking up with a friend. Has there been a time when you've broken up with a friend? I can think of a few situations I've encountered before that could be labeled "breaking up with a friend".
