This week, a Chic reader is searching for a date for semi-formal. Which guy will she choose--her crush, her ex, or someone new?

Friday

9 p.m. Stayed in for the night with Nick*. Watched television and snuggled on the couch. The tension is obvious. We are both attracted to each other but we don’t want to start randomly hooking up again. It’s bad for our friendship, and I miss him when we aren’t friends.

12 a.m. Went home to find messages from Chris on AIM. He said something like, “I guess I have been replaced.” I just left it at, “Nick called first.” And actually, Chris did not call at all so he can’t complain.

Saturday

10 p.m. I can’t find a date to my semi-formal. By senior year, guys don’t seem to want to go to dances (or they find some other lame excuse). Adam actually said no!

2 a.m. I call Kenny and ask him to come over. He is a friend from class and he might have fun at a dance. We talked for an hour about where we were going to end up after graduation and other sad senior topics. Finally, I asked him what he was up to next weekend. He is going home early for Thanksgiving break. He ended up sleeping over because it was cold out and he lives over a mile away. We fell asleep quickly; well he did anyway, I have trouble sharing my bed. So I still don’t have a date and didn’t get a good night’s sleep.

Sunday

8:30 a.m. Kicked Kenny out of bed. Time to get my work done! Literally, library all day.

12 p.m. My school is too small. Adam is in the same computer lab that I picked to do my work in. He texts me “I bet that apple is tasty.” That boy is just so creative. Just wish he liked dances!

9 p.m. Just got out of chapter. Saw Dan, the ex-boyfriend, going into the student center. Asked him to semi-formal. He didn’t seem excited, but he said yes. He has a lot of friends going so it will be fine…I hope.

Monday

12:30 p.m. Just another manic Monday. Went to a career fair today. On the bus over, a girl started talking to me about my outfit. Of course, I remembered her from when I dated Dan (she was obsessed with him, hugged him just a little too long for my liking, and called him all the time). She didn’t remember me, until she mentioned “the twins,” (Dan is a twin) and I asked if they were going. Then she just had to ask how I knew him. Many people love or hate me for breaking up with Dan, either love me because they want to date him, or hate me because I “broke his heart.” She may be in both categories, because that ended our conversation.

Tuesday

Nick just found out his hockey tournament got cancelled this weekend, so I could have taken him to semi-formal. I don’t know if I would have wanted to, but he might have been less stressful, though just as complicated, as Dan.

Wednesday

2 p.m. Saw Adam AGAIN at the library. This time I hid in the back of the library on the first floor. I must need to go to the second floor next. He moved tables to sit with me…so I guess he likes me enough but not enough to go to my dance.

4 p.m. Oh good, Pete just walked in. I stole his shorts after sleeping over one night. I still have them. Maybe I should just sequester myself in my apartment to avoid these encounters.

Thursday

11 p.m. Met up with Lisa at Cantina, the restaurant “pre-game” location, before the bar. Chris tells me to call him when we go.

11:30 p.m. The freshmen and wasted girls annoyed me tonight. I should be used to this by now, but I was too tired to shake it off. It was karaoke night. I need to try it one day, but I tense up on stage. Adam tried dancing with me but I was not in the mood. I spent most of the night at a table, judging the belligerent students who won’t be making it to their 8 a.m. class Friday.

11:45 I text Chris and tell him I am at Lighthouse Bar. He is at West End Bar. Neither of us want to leave our present locations. The bars are two or three lots apart. You could throw a stone at one and hit the other.

1 a.m. Go home alone. And happy I am not an immature freshman.

1:48 a.m. Chris texts me “where are you?” The bars close at 2 a.m. Isn’t that convenient! I don’t reply.

Friday

6 p.m. Sisterhood night at the house. We watch Knocked Up. I don’t know what I would do in Katherine Heigl’s situation.

8 p.m. Pi Kappa Phi brotherhood auction. Dan doesn’t go up for auction, but he goes to the event. Some of the bids are sad. A set of four brothers went for sale for $15 but another group went for $140!

10 p.m. Stay in for the rest of the night. Must rest up for semi-formal tomorrow.

Saturday

7 p.m. Go to Danielle’s for the semi-formal pre-game. Just one problem. One of the guys I am a little interested in is going, and I had no idea. The good news is that he--Steven--isn’t really going with anyone. One girl didn’t want to bring anyone so one of the seniors just asked him to come as a second date for herself.

9 p.m. Get to the bar and start dancing. Dan and I have a good time. I only freak out once within my intoxicated behavior, when I see Steven and want to dance with him, instead of dance with Dan. But, the roommate calmed me down and the night proceeded without drama.

12:30 a.m. Dan and I pass out with our dress clothes on.

4:30 a.m. I wake up, and immediately need to throw up. I did not overindulge so much as to warrant this.

6 a.m. Wake up sick again. Can’t fall back to sleep.

7 a.m. Another visit to the bathroom! I must have food poisoning. Dan is really nice, though. He gets me water and cheerios and stays up with me. He leaves around 10 a.m.

1 p.m. I finally don’t feel sick. I get some reading done for class and take a nap.
