“Summer days driftin' away, to uh-oh those summer nights” –Summer Nights, Grease
I love the summertime, especially here in New York! All of my friends come back from college out-of-town. Sequels to Hollywood Blockbusters like Spiderman, Shrek, and Pirates of the Caribbean hit the theaters. Colorful birds fly through the sky without a cloud in sight. With only 3 weeks until June officially begins, I’m already starting to brace myself for the inevitable summer fling.
I’m pretty sure that I’ll be somewhere with some friends and meet somebody who wants to do something. So, here’s some of the hotspots you’ll catch me at this summer.
1. Barbeques
No other event says summer like the good ole fashioned BBQ! What’s better than a group of close friends and family standing in line for the next shish kabob off the grill? A group of lovely ladies in their spring wear standing in line for the next shish kabob off the grill.
2. The Beach
Here, I’m not much of a swimmer. Instead, I let my inner entrepreneur roam free among the sand, offering free samples of suntan lotion application. Who ever said that just because its hot, you have to be burnt? I turn up the heat with my gimmick, and hope a jealous boyfriend doesn’t ask to see my license.
3. The Pool
Here, I’m not much of a swimmer, either. Donning a fresh pair of trunks and my lucky dog tag, my 6’3 frame is hard to miss in 4 to 5 feet of water. All I need is for the dunking contests to begin.
Soon, I’d meet my summer fling. And although I’m not trying to get back into anything remotely serious, I’m willing to charge the next three months to the game. But I, like the rest of the brotherhood, operate on unbreakable man-law guidelines to ensure a short, sweet summer romance.
1. Bros before…
Summer is short and we’re trying to live it up. Thus, if our boys happen to have a “you-can’t-miss-this-for-anything” event, we’re going to go. Because this is a summer fling, you must accept any cancellation of plans. (Don’t worry ladies, you have the same rules).
2. Summer Splurging
T-Pain ain’t the only cat buying drinks around here. We use the summer to stack some paper by taking on an extra job (or two or three). If we have a summer someone, expect nice treatment along with…
3. Reality Reminders
It’s always great to live for the moment, but keep it mind that moment only spans a few months. Don’t be surprised if we drop the date we leave for school, end our vacation, or mysteriously plan to vacate to Alaska.
I’m talking so much crap right now! HAHA! Truth is these June-to-August relationships can drain you emotionally. You can experience love, hate, passion, break-ups, make-ups, shake-ups… all over the short span of three months. Whatever you plan to do, keep your cool! After all, the summer is time to relax. And if you don’t find your summer fling, there’s nothing wrong with relaxing alone.

As the balmy weather rolls in, I'm waving bye bye to the drama and trying to enjoy every wink, every cute miniature golf date and every lick of strawberry ice cream. If you're in the right state of mind, yea...a summer fling could be kind of refreshing. And who knows? When the leaves start to fall, the memories of summer's flame may be enough to keep the fire going...
