Get Empowered: Celebrate Your Friendships

This year, I made a lot of friends. Actually, I use the term "friends" quiet loosely. Perhaps more accurately, I met a lot of people. Some of them turned out to be pretty damn amazing; full of life and inspiration.

True friends--the kind that have seen you in your skivvies in the morning dancing to "Bootylicious" and still love you, the kind that will actually listen and respond to your ramblings about life, love and (in my case) the traits of different astrological signs--they are hard to come by.

I have found that, the older you get, the harder it is to make real, true friends. I have lots more acquaintances now than I ever did in high school. But, consequently, I have far less close friends. And you know what? That's not a bad thing.

I realized that I don't want any Debbie Downers in my life. And I think that although this has made my "Number of Super-Duper-Close Pals" list much smaller, it has essentially made my life better. My friendships are more meaningful, and much more fulfilling.

Basically, what I'm saying here is that if you've got good friends who support you, hold 'em tighter than that pair of skinny jeans hugs your hips. Try to do something special for those super-duper-close pals in your life. Even if it's a simple text message announcing your love for them and the unique perspective they bring to your life, let 'em know.

To all my pals reading this: Thanks so much and I'm so lucky to have all of you. And I really am sorry about that whole "Bootylicious" thing.
