Trend Report: Gladiator Sandals

Just as boots belong to the winter season, sandals and flip-flops are an ever-present sign of warm weather, relaxing by the pool and lazy summer days.  And with the return of those cloudless and tropical days also comes the return of a trend favorite: gladiator sandals.

While this footwear trend isn’t brand new, it’s a delightful return to chicsters everywhere. Plus, with the trend’s growing popularity, there comes a variety of styles and prices, meaning anyone can get a hold of this fun summer craze.  For those of us who are still sticking to our college budget lifestyles, check out American Eagle's Troy Gladiator Sandal. At only $29.50, these gold flats will definitely grab some attention. Pair with jean shorts and a casual top, and you’re ready for a fun afternoon in the sun.

Steve Madden also has a great collection this season when it comes to the perfect spring and summer shoe. Looking for a bit more of an embellished look? Try the Roombaa in black ($99.99). This bold choice adds some metal embellishments, a slight wedge heel and a zippered back in order to give this popular look a little more spice.

Another sure-to-be-popular pick from Madden’s collection is the Sysco Flat ($79.95). While most gladiator sandal styles stick to darker, safer colors like black, grey or brown, this look comes in a variety of shades, such as pink, yellow, and turquoise – a perfect (and very glam) pairing with bright summer sundresses.

And while the gladiator trend typically is confined to sandals, Jessica Simpson’s shoe collection is proving that this “when in Rome” look can easily transfer to heels for a fun night out.  Her Kamacozy look ($89.00) throws in a tall wooden wedge heel to mix up this footwear fad.

So, whether your plans for summer include tanning at the beach or partying at a local club (or both!), don’t forget these in-vogue favorites when figuring out what to add to your closet collection this season!
